P.D. James - I figli degli uomini mi aveva incuriosito la pubblicità del film uscito quest'anno. al cinema non sono andata ma ho comprato il libro, per quella strana convinzione per cui i libri sono meglio dei film da essi tratti.non avendo visto il film non posso fare confronti, anche se i trailier mi avevano stuzzicato scenari e pathos ben più intriganti. il libro è stato scritto nell'ormai ben lontano 1992.. e si vede. le ambientazioni sanno di ammuffita old english country, i toni e le descrizioni sanno troppo di tweed e thè con il latte per voler essere storia del 2021. il catastrofico avvenire dell'umanità assume poca importanza in fin dei conti dato il cinismo del protagonista e la sua miopia che lo limita a guardare a se stesso o poco più. ben diverso dall'aitante eroe cinematografico intravisto negli spot. aitante e attivo, energico. il protagonista del libro è un ormai anziano (di testa) cinquantenne, pigro grigio e rassegnato alla routine che salva l'esistenza vuota, che si sente vivo nel rubare un'auto a due vecchietti. insomma, si intuisce che la lettura non è stata particolarmente piacevole. lento e sonnacchioso il procedere della storia. al limite del ridicolo il finale che vuole lasciare in sospeso il futuro di protagonista e umanità al fine di far capire al lettore che il potere cambia anche i migliori (figurarsi i mediocri). al di là delle considerazioni sul testo, rimangono molti temi su cui riflettere, che fanno solo da sfondo sfocato alla storia mesta di un gruppetto di sprovveduti rivoluzionari imbranati quanto "i soliti ignoti" ma molto meno simpatici, geniali e umani. si parla di estinzione del genere umano per impossibilità alla procreazione; infertilità senza spiegazione (forse l'inquinamento, forse l'egoismo dell'uomo). si parla di speranza sfociata in follia, in fanatismo, di religione divenuta superstizione. si abbozzano discussioni etiche sul valore del potere e della politica, sull'opportunità di decisioni apparentemente poco umane ma dal fine forse superiore ai valori astratti. temi attuali, forse universali. non particolarmente argute e illuminanti le immagini lasciate dallo scrittore. credo che vedrò il film e per una volta temo che mi ritroverò a dire che è meglio del libro leggi i commenti
