Parole di Zia Uvetta

 Chi, come me, si aspettava una sciorinata di teoriche elucubrazioni sulla poesia leggendo questo testo rimarrà sorpreso.

Il grande scrittore argentino parla a ruota libera (ma incanalata in una salda filosofia letteraria), con lucidità e ironia, di quel che per lui è la poesia, la letteratura, la ricerca, la parola.

Quelle qui proposte sono le sbobinature di sei lezioni tenute da Borges nel 1967 in una universtià americana, e lì rimaste dimenticate per trent'anni circa.

E' una lettura che potrebbe anche scorrere via veloce, per la prosa semplice e colloquiale, per gli esempi immediati e che colpiscono l'immaginazione. Ma nelle 118 pagine (più le note) c'è molto da scovare tra le righe. Parole semplici che svelano scenari smisurati.

Riporto alcuni passaggi, nei quali mi ritrovo (ovvero, sensazioni da me appena intuite e percepite e da Borges magistralmente rese con quello strumeno che è la parola di cui sembra conoscere ogni segreto):

"...Ma, sfortunatamente, tutta la letteratura è fatta di espedienti, e questi - alla lunga - non reggono. Inoltre, il lettore se ne stanca. ..."

"...Perché (mi sembra di capire) le cose solo suggerite sono molto più incisive di quelle spiegate. Forse la mente umana ha la tendenza a respingere le asserzioni... le argomentazioni non convincono. Non convincono perché sono presentate in quanto tali. Le consideriamo, le soppesiamo, le rivoltiamo e le respingiamo. Ma, quando una cosa viene semplicemente detta, o meglio ancora, accennata, in qualche modo la nostra immaginazione la accoglie. Siamo pronti ad accettarla. ..."

"...Allora, penso che le prospettive - anche dopo la mia lezione - siano piuttosto rosee per la metafora. Se così ci piace, possiamo provare noi stessi a trovare nuove varianti delle principali opzioni. Le varianti sarebbero bellissime, e solo pochi critici si prenderebbero la briga di dire come me: << Be', per l'ennesima volta, qui ci sono le stelle e gli occhi e là ci sono il fiume e il tempo >>. Le metafore colpiranno l'immaginazione. Ma potrebbe anche esserci dato - perché non sperarlo? - di inventare metafore che non appartengono, o che non appartengono ancora, ai modelli noti. ..."

"...Pensate ai grandi romanzi del nostro secolo, come l'Ulysses di Joyce. Ci vengono dete migliaia di cose sui due protagonisti, eppure non li conosciamo. Conosciamo meglio i personaggi di Dante o di Shakespeare, che ci sono stati tramandati - che vivono e muoiono - in poche frasi. Non sappiamo migliaia di circostanze che li riguardano, ma li capiamo nell'intimo. Il che, naturalmente, è molto più importante. ..."

"...Ho trovato gioia in molte di esse (cose accadute nella vita), nel nuotare, nello scrivere, nel guardare un'alba o un tramonto, nell'innamorarmi e così via. Ma, in qualche modo, il fatto centrale della mai vita è stata l'esistenza delle parole e la possibilità di trasformare tali parole in poesia. All'inizio, certo, ero solo un lettore. Oggi penso che la felicità di un lettore sia superiore a quella di uno scrittore, perché il lettore non ha problemi, non ha preoccupazioni: è lì, pronto per la felicità. E la felicità, quando si è lettori, è frequente. ..."
